ABOUT THE COACHING PRACTICE

About Affinity Pathfinder

Most people are not broken. They are carrying too much, often alone, in conditions that weren’t designed to support them.

Why This Coaching Practice Exists

Affinity Pathfinder exists for the gap.

Most people who find their way here have already done a lot of work on themselves. They’re not looking for someone to explain them to themselves. They’re looking for a different kind of support than what they’ve been able to find.

The gap between knowing your patterns and actually shifting them. Between understanding what you need and being able to ask for it. Between the life you’re living and the one that actually fits.

This isn’t a wellness brand. It’s a coaching practice built around the belief that most people aren’t broken. They’re carrying too much, often alone, in conditions that weren’t designed to support them. And they’ve been taught to treat that as a personal failing.

It isn’t.

What We Do Here

Your nervous system is not the enemy.

Somatic coaching, facilitated group circles, self-paced courses, and specialized support for modern dating and creative professionals.

Everything here is built around the same core understanding: your nervous system is doing exactly what it learned to do. The work is building enough safety, capacity, and relational support that something different becomes possible.

All sessions are virtual. All services are available worldwide.

WHAT THIS IS AND ISN’T

The difference between coaching and therapy.

Affinity Pathfinder is a coaching practice. It is not a therapy practice. Erica Johnson is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and that clinical training deeply informs this work. But coaching and therapy are different containers serving different needs.

Therapy

Therapy addresses clinical mental health: diagnosis, treatment, trauma processing, and repair. Affinity Counseling of Colorado, Erica’s separate therapy practice, serves that need for Colorado residents.

Coaching

Coaching focuses on capacity, patterns, alignment, and forward movement. It assumes you’re generally stable and functioning, and works with where you want to go rather than what needs to be healed. It’s available to people everywhere.

If you’re not sure which is the right fit, reach out. That’s exactly what the free consultation is for.

MEET ERICA

I’m not the expert on your life. You are.

I’m Erica Johnson. Therapist, coach, RPCV, former theatre kid, current nomad, and someone who has personally field-tested enough of the modern dating landscape, the burnout cycle, the creative grind, and the experience of rebuilding yourself in unfamiliar places to have strong opinions about all of it.

I’ve spent years sitting with people in the middle of their most confusing moments. Including some of my own.

My clinical training is in attachment, IFS, Brainspotting, Somatic Experiencing, and EFT. I understand why people get stuck where they get stuck, where those patterns came from, and how to actually shift them rather than just name them. I work with what’s happening in your body, not just your thoughts, because your nervous system is making most of the decisions before your brain even catches up.

I spent over a decade in theatre, circumnavigated the world on a Semester at Sea, served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Indonesia where I led theatre-for-social-change and community health programs, and have lived and worked across more than twenty countries. That taught me things about the body, presence, and how people carry their history that a clinical degree alone couldn’t.

I developed and taught a university course reframing self-care as self-preservation and political act, grounded in Audre Lorde’s work and trauma-informed practice. I’ve sat in a lot of rooms with a lot of kinds of beauty and suffering. I’ve learned how to stay present and useful inside them.

What I keep seeing is consistent. Most people are not broken. They are misattuned to. Living in conditions that fragment and deplete and isolate them, and taught to treat that as a personal problem.

I currently work as a digital nomad. That’s given me a lived practice of what it actually takes to lose, rebuild, and maintain an internal compass across very different places and phases of life. It’s not theoretical for me.

I bring a flashlight, a sense of the terrain, and a really good compass. This is your path. I’m here to help you walk it.

HOW THIS WORK IS INFORMED

Living frameworks, not rigid protocols.

The clinical frameworks I draw on most: IFS (Internal Family Systems), Brainspotting, Somatic Experiencing, and EFT. These aren’t rigid protocols. They’re living frameworks for understanding what’s happening underneath and creating conditions for something to actually shift.

The thinkers who have shaped this work

Stephen Porges

on the nervous system and safety

Peter Levine

on how the body holds and releases trauma

Bessel van der Kolk

on what the body keeps

Richard Schwartz

on parts and self-leadership

Esther Perel

on love, desire, and the impossible asks we put on modern relationships

Resmaa Menakem

on what bodies carry across generations

Audre Lorde

on self-preservation as political act

And the older traditions that understood the body as a site of knowing long before neuroscience had language for it.

WHAT AFFINITY PATHFINDER IS NOT

Not a self-optimization program.

Not a productivity system. Not a place where you’ll be asked to fix yourself, perform healing, or become a better version of yourself for someone else’s comfort.

This is a place to understand what’s actually happening, build capacity that holds, and figure out what becomes possible when you stop fighting yourself.
